Edward E. McCormick, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, 72, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso.  Loved ones described him as charismatic, loving, a sweet and precious soul and an amazingly talented man who loved life and loved his children even more.

 

He leaves behind his wife, Tatiana (Morales) McCormick (married 8-17-17), his daughters Bridget McCormick Lackey and husband Raymond, of Plano, TX; Lisa Lynn Eveleth and husband Mathew of Davenport, IA; Michele Marie Morales of Austin, TX; Annick Ernestina Rivas of Austin, TX; son Jorge Alejandro (Alex) Morales of El Paso, TX; two grandsons Matthew and Mitchell (sons of Bridget); sister Patsy Sue Manus of Hope, AR;  brother Colonel William J. McCormick and wife Linda of Tucson, AZ and brother-in-law Donald Brookstra of Davenport, IA.  Edward also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, many beloved friends and colleagues.

 

Edward was preceded in death by his parents William Joe McCormick and Mimi Lou Woodruff of Davenport, IA (June 1995), his sister Georgia Lee Brookstra (11-23-17) of Davenport, IA and his beloved cat Abraham Lincoln (Abel).

 

Born May 10, 1945 and raised in Davenport, IA. Edward was a great student (teacher’s pet), Student Council President, drama club, high school football, wrestled in high school and college, high school wrestling and football state championships. Edward started college in medicine per his father’s wishes, but the love and passion for architecture drew him away to complete his B.A. Architecture in 1970; Master of Architecture and Master of Construction Engineering in 1974, all from Iowa State University.   Edward was also inducted into his high school Hall of Fame in 2013 for Central High School, Davenport, IA.

 

Edward met his first wife, Marcia Eleanor Drummond in grade school.  They were high school sweethearts and married March 3, 1966 in Davenport, IA.  They were married 14 years and had two daughters together, Bridget and Lisa.  Edward married Connie Gyenis August 8, 1998 in El Paso, TX.  They were married 8 years and raised three children, Michele, Alex and Annick.

Edward moved to his beloved city of El Paso, TX in 1972.  He wanted to be where the sun always shined and construction took place year round.  His love and passion for his work in architecture led him to registration in thirteen states.  The teaching of architecture and his love of art led him to be the recipient of too many awards and publications to list.

 

Edward was a cherished member of society with memberships and active roles in the City of El Paso (1998-present), El Paso Chamber of Commerce (1988-present), Special Community Task Force (1985-present), U.S. Green Building Council (2006-present), El Paso Association of Home Builders (1986-1995), YMCA of El Paso (1978-1994), Epilepsy El Paso (1986-1989), El Paso Pro Musica (1988-1994, 2006-present), El Paso Symphony Orchestra (1996-2002), Ballet El Paso (1993-1996), The Opera Company of El Paso (1994-1996), Los Paisanos Del Chamizal Foundation (1994) and participated on numerous committees since 1992 for AIA El Paso, Texas Society of Architects and the American Institute of Architects.

 

Edward was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend.  Edward coached softball with his girls, soccer, and was a chief in the program formerly known as Y-Indian Princess.  He cheered his children in track, pageants, auditions, acting camps and always   played an active role in school projects.  Edward loved praising his children and prided himself in creating responsible, independent, accomplished children.

 

The services for Mr. McCormick will be held at Perches Funeral Home, 6111 S. Desert Blvd, El Paso, TX.  Visitation will be on Thursday, December 21st from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM.  The Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 22nd at 11:00 AM.  An additional service will be provided in Edward’s home town of Davenport, IA on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
